The Secretary to The Adamawa State Government and Chairman of the Coronavirus Containment Committee, Bashiru Ahmed, says the state is fully prepared to curb the spread of the coronavirus with only four ventilators.

Ahmed who was addressing journalists at the government house Yola said the state government had recently acquired one thousand, two hundred and thirty one (1231) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), for health personnel in case of any outbreak in the state.

Ahmed, while addressing journalists, explained that a single ventilator can take care of ten patients with two ventilators expected in the state from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). He maintained that sixty patients can be adequately taken care with six ventilators, hence, the state is adequately ready to deal with the outbreak of coronavirus.

Ahmed said, “I can assure you that we have put all necessary efforts to ensure a proper and satisfactory isolation center is established in the state.

“The state has adequately prepared for eventuality. I assure you in case of any eventuality, the state is adequately prepared.

“We have four ventilators in the state, three from FMC and one is an existing ventilator that has been repaired,” he said.

He noted that the state government had moved the isolation centre from the specialist hospital to the Yola German hospital with 32 beds to take care of any suspected case.

Ahmed disclosed that so far, only one sample has been sent for examination and the result had returned negative.
