Dalhatu Abdullahi Magori of Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, has emerged the new chairman of Sokoto State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ.

Dalhatu emerged unopposed at the state delegates conference held on Wednesday at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru road, Sokoto.

Others members of the state executive council who emerged through consensus includes, Abbas Tukur Sanyinna, Vice Chairman; Nasiru Muhammad Bello, Secretary General; Aliyu Muhammad Shuni, Treasurer; Tukur Aliyu Arkilla, Assistant Secretary General; Abubakar Isah, Financial Secretary and Nura Bello Maikwanci, Auditor General.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new executive, the NUJ Vice President Zone A, Muhammad Umar, applauded members of the Sokoto NUJ council, for their spirit of sportsmanship and maturity in getting a new leadership without rancour.

In his address, the state Commissioner for Information, Isah Bajini Galandanchi, thanked the previous executives for supporting government programmes and policies urging the newly elected executives to emulate them.

On his part the Commissioner for Finance, Abdusamad Dasuki, said the NUJ in the state have been instrumental to the ministry’s reformation policies.

According to him, “the media sensitization and public enlightment on the reformation policies by the ministry of finance in the state was a huge success.

“When we started the reformation, some people raised eyebrow, which made the outgoing NUJ leadership to scheduled a meeting with the ministry. After many hours of deliberation, the chairman was convinced that we mean well for the people of the state and he pledged the union support to the reformations”

Earlier in his address the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Isa Shuni, thanked members of the union for providing him the opportunity to serve.

Shuni noted that NUJ under him recorded indelible achievements which include, training and retraining of council members, offering scholarship to those that did not have minimum qualification to practice by sending them to Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic to study Mass Communication at Diploma level.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Dalhatu Magori, thanked the council members for the confidence reposed in him, with a promise not to disappoint them.
