Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum has mourned the late Colonel Dahiru Bako, killed in an ambush in Damboa local government.

Zulum joined the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai, the Senate committee Chairman on defense and other personnel of the military high command for the final burial rites for the officer.

The governor extolled the gallantry of Colonel Bako who had worked in several locations in the theatre of operations in the army’s counter insurgency effort.

His last posting until his demise was the 25 Task force Brigade, where he served as the Commanding Officer covering the southern axis of the state including Damboa and Chibok.

His family is not taking his demise well, with his widow in severe shock and hospitalized.

The governor announced a welfare donation of 20 million to the family in addition to a house to cushion the effect of the loss of their bread winner.
Family members witnessed the solemn ceremony, and received the flag on behalf of the hospitalized next of kin.

The military is also silent about the two other occupants of the hillux van, the driver and the orderly who were also reportedly killed.

The governor had also prayed for those injured, the number of which was also unspecified.
