Governor Darius Ishaku has granted pardon to eight inmates under the prerogative of mercy to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day celebration.

A Statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Iliya Bekyu Akweh says the inmates are serving various terms of imprisonment at the Serti and Wukari Custodian centers in the State.

It says those that regained freedom from Serti Custodial Center are Humtaro Abanda,Sani Baushe,Tancy Mtseikyaa and Ali Lawan.

Those from the Wukari Custodial Area include Habibu Mohammed, Habilu Altine,John Lamido and John Bulus.

The statement adds that the pardon granted the prisoners by the Governor is in pursuant to powers conferred on him by section two hundred and twelve sub section one C of the Constitution of Nigeria Nineteen ninety nine.

Authorities of the Nigeria Correctional Service Serti Satellite Custodial center and Wukari Custodial center are hereby directed to give immediate effect to the order and discharge the inmates accordingly.
