The Adamawa state chapter of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has kick started a 16-day intensive awareness campaign on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law earlier signed into law by governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

The new law seeks to stop any form of violence against persons and to protect the dignity of the human person.

The sensitization tour is supported by Rule of law and Anti Corruption, (RoLAC).

The FIDA entourage during its sensitization call on shopping complex in Jimeta called on the people to embrace the new law as it seeks to promote the well being and dignity of persons against all forms of abuses.

FIDA former Chairperson, Halima Shaibu called on Gamzaki traders at the shopping complex to educate their members about the existence of the new law as ignorance is not an excuse before the law.

She noted that the sensitization is also to sensitize the people about the content of the law and the severe consequences that awaits its violators.

Shaibu appealed to the traders to educate, popularize and domesticate the VAPP law for the benefit of all and sundry.

Adamawa State coordinator of RoLAC, Hapsat Abdullahi in her address to the traders, traditional rulers and religious leaders appealed to all to carry the massage around their vicinity stating that the violence against women and girls should not be encouraged.

Responding to the call by FIDA, the chairman of traders association Gamzaki Yola North, Lawal Auta highly commended FIDA for their selfless effort to ensure the state is free from gender based violence and all forms of molestation.

He pledged to spread the good massage to all traders operating within his domain and beyond so that the people could be fully abreast of the new law.

Responding to the call, some of the trader’s applauded FIDA for its courage and diligence at ensuring eradicating all forms of gender based violence in Adamawa State.

They also promised to spread the new message to friends, associates and relatives.

In his remark, Sarkin Yaki Jimeta, Alhaji Mohammadu Baba similarly called on the people to embrace the law stating that it is for the betterment of the entire state.

He also called on parents to look after their kids and not to allow them stay out late at night for their own safety.
