The Former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima has added his voice to those commending President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing new service chiefs.

Shettima, a Senator, one of the most vocal leaders that called for the sack of the outgone service chiefs told joirnalists in Maiduguri that his agitation was nothing personal.

Shettima explains that as an APC stakeholder he felt duty bound to tell the truth to power as a succesful armed forces is to the credit of the ruling party.

The lawmaker said the crop of new service chiefs consists of the finest officers the Army has produced and he was confident that they would bring a new vigour to the security architecture of the country.

“The president deserves to be commended for replacing the service chiefs with much more experienced and brand new faces who will give an added to the counter insurgency war. It is a welcome development and we wish the former service chiefs the best of life in all their future endeavors.

The senator said Buhari took his time to identify competent military commanders who are well grounded with knowledge of the Boko Haram crisis after serving in Borno State at different capacities.

“The President made a well informed decision. And for those that I have had cause to interact with I can attest to their character, integrity, professionalism and sense of judgement. LEO Irabor was a theatre commander here in Maiduguri.  He is one of the finest officers the Nigerian army has ever produced. Rear Admiral Gambo was herein Maiduguri a very fine naval officer. A d there is campaign of calumny against the new chief of army staff. I believe its uncalled for. Under the previous dispensation he was answerable to another person and maybe the circumstances did not allow him to excel but now he is the chief of army staff he is now leading the troops a d it is absolutely impossible for somebody to teach the pinnacle of his career to be a Major General without being an excellent officer i believe that this gentleman General Attahiru will put in his best and will preside over the end of the boko haram insurgency and banditry.” Shettima noted.

Senator Kashim Shettima also spoke about his strong voice calling for the sack of former service chiefs, noting he had nothing personal but the interest of Borno and the nation.

“There was nothing personal in our calls for the change of service chiefs. For instance, the former chief of army staff, General Tukur Buratai, we both grew up in Maiduguri, we attended the same primary school and the same University. And the former chief of air staff, we have personal marital affinity with him. But when it comes to national issues we should not allow sentiments to becloud our sense of judgement and we owe it to humanity we owe it to the president to assist him by telling him what should be done in the proper way.”  Shettima said.

Shettima noted that it was best for him to speak his mind if that would contribute to Buhari’s success.
