The chairman House of Representatives committee on Army, Hon. Abdulrakaz Namdas has commiserated with the people of Garkida over the recent Christmas eve attack on the community by Boko Haram fighters.

Boko Haram fighters have on the eve of Christmas launched an audacious attack on the sleepy town killing six residents and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

Namdas who is representing Ganye, Jada, Toungo and Mayo-Belwa federal constituency regretted the attack while calling on citizens to be more vigilante and security conscious.

” It is sad that we still have attacks on communities by Boko Haram despite all efforts by the government and our security forces. I am particular pained by this cowardly act by the terrorists and I therefore extend my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and also those who sustained injuries during the attack.

” I commend the efforts and swift response of our security forces including the army, air force, police and the men of the vigilante groups for their bravery in repelling the attack which might had caused more havoc on the community,” Namdas said.

The lawmaker said he had spoken with the brigade commander, 23 Armoured Brigade Yola and got assurances that more troops will be deployed to the area to ensure security of lives and properties.

” The brigade commander has assured me that more troops will be deployed to safeguard the area and the surrounding villages. I’m confident that they will do their best to halt whatever attack that may occur,” he assured.

On the 26th of December, just two days after the attack, residents of Garkida again scampered into the surrounding bushes after sighting about nine trucks of Boko Haram fighters heading to their community.

This is the third time that Boko Haram will be attacking Garkida, a border community with Borno state, home of the dreaded terrorists group.
