A serving Senator from Jigawa state has been fingered as the sponsor behind a failed attempt to remove the Speaker of Jigawa State House of Assembly, Honourable Idris Garba Jahun.

A dependable source hinted our correspondent that the Senator who is nurturing ambition of becoming next Governor of the state in 2023 made frantic efforts to coerce some members of the state house of Assembly to commence the impeachment process of the speaker.

Despite failing to convince Governor Badaru to endorse his motives some few weeks ago, the Senator convened a meeting with some APC stakeholders from his senatorial zone, at his residence.

A source at the meeting who preferred not to be named, confirmed that, the Senator threatened to remove the Speaker from office after his failure to coerced him in accepting greek gifts for automatic support as the only qualified person to take over after Governor Badaru’s tenure end in 2023.

“The Senator regarded the Speaker unyielding stance as a threat to his governorship ambition because he (Speaker), being a close and trusted ally to the governor, is expected to be part of the deciding factor of who succeed Governor Badaru.

“The botched plot to impeach the speaker was
allegedly spear-headed by a member (name withheld), who had embarked on recruitment of members of the state house of Assembly to endorse the hatchet job on behalf of the Senator.

“The Senator in cohort with his arrowhead has even pencilled two names as new Speaker, but his plot was foiled because Governor Badaru bluntly rejected the plot, and maintained his support to the Speaker,” the source narrated.

Efforts to get reaction from the state government was futile, as Governor Badaru media aide did pick several calls nor respond to text messages sent to his phone as at the time of going to press.
