…Directs DPOs to Monitor Social Gatherings Across the State
Taraba state police command has raised the alarm over an upsurge of the destruction of lives and properties by restive youths.
Spokesman of the police command, DSP David Misal, raised the alarm in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement revealed that most of the attacks occurred during birthday parties/social gatherings by youth groups.
DSP Misal also warned that the attacks are unbecoming and called on parents to monitor their wards.
According to Misal, “The attention of the Taraba State Police Command has been drawn to the incessant get together party attacks among youths in various locations in the State.
“Information at the disposal of the Command has it that most of the attacks occurred during birthday parties/social gathering among various youth groups and most often resulting to serious injuries, destruction of public property or lost of lives.
“Arms such as knives, cutlasses, machetes and other dangerous weapons were peddled into the event grounds to cause mayhem.
“Most of the gatherings are done without seeking for Police clearance nor security coverage.
“Such attacks has been causing panic and apprehension among the residents of the State.
“In as much as the Nigeria constitutions guaranteed freedom of peaceful assembly, it should be noted that breach of the provision of the constitution as its concerns peaceful conduct of any assembly is a crime and dangerous to peaceful co-existence.
“In view of the above, and in order to guarantee public safety, the Commissioner of Police directed all Area Commanders, DPO’s to monitor all social gatherings, such as birth day parties, naming ceremonies etc and where necessary stop any party if noticed that such event may cause breach of public peace.
“It’s also advisable that general public should apply for Police protection during such occasions.
Parents/ guardians are enjoin to monitor the activities of their wards, as the Command is working assiduously to ensure a crime free Taraba State. “
