The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Polytechnic (ASUP) Federal Polytechnic Mubi has described its out-going Rector, Dr Sadiq Yahya as a tyrant and called for his arrest and prosecution.
The union members who gathered at the Yola campus of the institution called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Dr. Sadiq for an alleged gross financial misconduct and unethical conduct while in office.
Holding placards with various inscriptions and chanting the solidarity song, the members also accused the out-going rector of witch hunting and disengaging staff without following due process.
Chairman of ASUP, Husinni James, who spoke on behalf of the members accused the Rector of misusing his office to perpetrate various unethical conduct and mismanagement of the institution’s funds.
” For over three months now, Dr. Yahya did not show up in the school since his tenure has expired but only for him to attempt to handover affairs of the school to the Deputy Rector in his house in Song yesterday which the deputy refused and he shifted it to this morning.
” Because he got wind of us (ASUP) members are aware he want to handover today, he hurriedly handed over to the Deputy Rector about 10pm in Yola campus of the school without the Registra of the school and other management staff of the institution.
“The outgoing Rector made himself a tyrant whose words must be obeyed be it right or wrong,” he said.
The association also accused the out-going rector for having no regard for the school academic advisor board and not making consultations on serious academic and welfare matters.
“We are calling on the Federal government to investigate the activities of Dr Sadiq Yahya in the last 8 years he held sway as the Rector, for financial recklessness.
” We have on record that Dr Yahya bought a refurbished jeep for N3.5m but claim it was purchased at N29m.
“Meanwhile he had refused to pay our 64 months arreas of CONTIS 15 approved for academic staff.
“Please we are pleading with Federal government to ask him where is our 64 months arreas of CONTIS 15 ” .
Efforts to speak with the outgoing Rector failed as he neither picked or reply text messages sent to him by pressmen as at the time of filling this report.
