Nigerian activist Ibrahim Wala, popularly referred to as IG Wala, has been released.
IG Wala who was incarcerated for wrongly accusing the chairman of the Muslim Pilgrims Board of corruption is among the 2, 600 prisoners pardoned by by president Muhammadu Buhari, across Nigeria.
Wala was on April 15th convicted by justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
His conviction followed a letter from Abdullahi Mukhtar, the chairman of Nigeria’s National Hajj Commission.
Mukhtar alleged in a petition that Wala was inciting the public against him through a Facebook post which was aimed at defaming his reputation and that of the commission.
Wala, the convener of Citizen Action to Take Back Nigeria, on 26 September, 2017 made a Facebook post accusing Mukhtar of enriching himself with N3bn after the 2017 Hajj exercise.
