The Academic Staff Union of Polythecnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Mubi has given the new Acting Rector,Dr.Abdulrahman A.Ishiaka, some conditions by reinstating the sacked 100 staff of the institution including the former National president of the Union, Comrade Mohammed Ali Kabir and his wife by his predecessor, otherwise, the union will not guarantee industrial harmony.
Other conditions include; promotions of the staff which was hacked by the Former Rector and payment of 64 months arrears of CONTISS 15.
The conditions according to ASUP follows controversies sorrounding the alleged ‘kangaroo’ handing over of the mantle of leadership of the Polytechnic by the former Rector,Dr.Sadiq Yahya to the new Rector with Bursar and the Registrar of the institution in abstaintial.
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polythecnics (ASUP) Hussaini James, while addressing a large number of academic staff at the main campus of the institution said ‘we saw a photograph of the former Rector trending on Facebook handing over a brown envelope to the new Rector like a person, paying a dowry of a bride price without the Bursar and Registrar and it was done in Yola campus in the night without following the conventions and protocols’
The unionist said, though by law Abdulrahman Ishiaka deserved the appointment,they would have done it at the main campus as usual,so that people of goodwill can congratulate him including ASUP.
Hussaini James while addressing the lecturers said ‘God has delivered us from the bondage.there is power in unity and we can now speak with one voice, every staff can be giving his right and there will be no more intimidation, religion is not going to be an issue in the appointment and promotion of our staff, Mohammed Ali Kabir must come back along his wife who were sacked with impunity, in academic,we don’t have Chief-of-Staff, but researchers,scholars and instructors’
He quickly called for academic Board and ASUP will elect two representatives to the board.
The Chairman who spoke extensively on the academic and administrative trauma the lecturers have passed through called for a shift in attitude and Administration of the new Rector.
He further Commended the lecturers for the reseilliance, endurance and hardship during the tenure of the former Rector.
The Vice Chairman ASUP, O.O.Titilola, said, ‘we need cooperation to work together,we need our demand,I stand by my truth and can say the truth, what my brother did was wrong.He went to Yola and collected an envelope’
Meanwhile, the new Acting Rector, Abdulraman Ishiaka said,he is ready to work with ASUP Federal Polytechnic Mubi for industrial harmony.
According to him, there is no any law defining the process of the handing over and called for the union to shield it’s sword.
The Registrar of the institution,Fadimatu Nuhu Mohammed said she is not permitted by law to talk to the press.
