Two governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa state have Saturday met ahead of the party’s primary elections.

Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas who is considered the frontline aspirant of the party visited Abdullahi Ahmed Musa (Speaker) to break the Ramadan fast and also discuss the way forward for the party ahead of the primaries slated for May 2022.

Speaking to newsmen after a brainstorming session, Abdulrazak Namdas said his meeting with Musa is a brotherly engagement that signals good things to come in the future.

“We are politicians and anything can happen in politics you can see that I’m in his house, I decided to come with my team after observing the day’s fasting. I told him that I will come and speak with him and he obliged the request.

“The essence is that we are all gunning for the same position. We want to contest governorship and we want to show that there is politics of understanding.

“The essence is that we are all gunning for the same position. We want to contest governorship and we want to show that there is politics of understanding.

“There are people who have been making statements that this party especially the aspirants in APC will not work together this is a sign that it is a lie.

“We will work together and we are understanding ourselves. You can see his team is here and my team is here, so the whole essence is that we will also be meeting other aspirants.

“Some of them are not around in the state but I can tell you before we go into full elections we will be talking to ourselves.

“What I will plead with the members of the media is don’t say Abdullahi Speaker has stepped down for Namdas or Namdas has stepped down for speaker, we have not reached that stage we are talking and there is nothing wrong talking with our colleagues so I’m very happy,” he said.

When asked whether the talks are the beginning of the consensus arrangement being touted, Namdas said consensus is constitutional but it must be derived from an understanding between the aspirants but not pushed on them.

“Consensus is a normal thing in politics. It is driven by the way we started. If I choose to step down for Musa that is my decision and if he decides to step down for me that is understanding. So this is what is called consensus even in the electoral act there is consensus but it is subject to the agreement of the aspirants.

“If I agree to step down for anybody or anybody agrees to step down for me, he will put it in writing. There is nothing wrong with understanding ourselves but it should be built from this level upward. It should not be from up downward,” he said.

Also speaking, Abdullahi Ahmed Musa noted that the aim of the meeting is not to give advantage to any zone but rather to carry along all aspirants as he noted that all those vying for the position are eminently qualified.

He noted that the overall aim of the meeting is to send the PDP government under the leadership of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri packing from the Dougirei government house come 2023.

“This meeting is the beginning of the funeral procession of the PDP-led government of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. This is the beginning and we are going to uproot PDP from the state,” he said.
