A 45-year old father of four who raped an 11-year old in Wurro-Jabbe, a community in Yola South local government of Adamawa state has been arrested.

The rapist, Sani Muhammed who is a butcher and two girls aged 12 & 15 while answering questions from journalists at the police headquarters in Yola, confessed to having committed the crime but said he was influenced by the devil.

While narrating the dastardly act to journalists, Mohammed said ” the young girl came to buy meat at my place in the night and I had sexual intercourse with her. A member of the vigilante in my community saw us together and reported the matter to our community head and from there I was brought to the police headquarters. It is an act of the devil and I regret doing that. I will not be happy if the same thing happens to my daughters, ” he said.

Mohammed is among 23 others paraded by the Adamawa state police command for rape and homosexual activities.

The state commissioner of police, Olubgenga Adeyanju who paraded the suspects said the rapists were arrested at various locations in the state for raping underage girls between the ages of seven and six.

“The attitudes became unbearable hence the command deployed its intelligence mechanisms having observed the parents and guardians of victims are mostly finding it difficult to report to police either as a result of stigmatization or cultural belief, ” the CP said.

The police commissioner said that the command has intensified efforts to nip the growing scourge of rape in the bud in all parts of the state.

“This effort is in line with the Inspector General of Police instruction to fight Rape and violent crimes against women and children.

“The command, through frequent patrols and visible Policing, arrested all the suspected rapists and homosexuals, ” CP Adeyanju said.

Also arrested is 30-years old Zainab, a female accomplice who lured her female friends to be gang-raped by her male friends who are drug addicts.

Zainab also confessed to masterminding the gang-rape of her female friend by nine men in Gerio, a suburb in Yola north local government of Adamawa state.

The police said Zainab has been cooperating with them and five rapists from her gang have been arrested.

Police commissioner Adeyanju said all the suspects who have been in police custody have confessed to committing the crimes and will be charged to court for prosecution.
