As the 2023 general election is gaining momentum, different groups in Adamawa and indeed the country as a whole have been calling on a calibre of people to run for elective positions.

This might not be unconnected to the change mantra championed by some concerned groups on the need to having credible people to steer the affairs of leadership at various levels.

Latest amongst this development in Adamawa, is a group known as Concerned Patriotic Indigenes of Adamawa North who vowed to persuade Alhaji Abubakar Isa Shafani to run for Senate.

Shafani who hails from the zone is an industrialist with first class International connections and the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Sugar Company in Nigeria.

The business mogul with masters degree, is an employer of labour and is believed to be among the strong chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa.

Speaking to Sahel Reporters, leader of the Concerned Group, Mr Tumba Kwaji said the group will mount pressure on Shafani to come and rescue the zone that has been suffering from poor representation.

Kwaji added that the zone being the commercial hub of Adamawa state with International markets has for the past 12 years not gotten the quality representation at the red chamber.

This, he said necessitated the group to search for a bonafide credible Indigene of the zone to run for Senate so as to bring development to the area devastated by insurgency.

He said the group has over 20,000 members across the five local government areas of the zone that include Michika, Madagali, Maiha, Mubi North and Mubi South.

Kwaji disclosed that, if Shafani accepted their call, they tend to consult and persuade other sister groups in Adamawa north to support him to success.

On his part, Aliyu Abubakar who is the Secretary of the group described Shafani as a humble, intelligent, and astute gentleman per excellence that will take the zone to the promised Land.

With his versatile experience in business transactions, the Secretary believed that if Shafani is given the mandate he will no doubt further unlock the economic potentials in Adamawa north.

Contributing, a member of the group, Hon. Yakubu Vimtim revealed that Shafani as an employer of labour has engaged many youths of the zone under his firm, Legacy Sugar Company.

He added that Shafani has also secured employment to hundreds of youths in Adamawa at the state and federal governments as well as private sector in the country.

He called on people to partner with their group on calling Alhaji Shafani to run for the Senate, for not only the benefit of Adamawa northern zone but the state in general.
