…Says he has filed eleven court cases against PDP in the last 10 years

Nigeria’s arguably most loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former aide of ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Umar Ardo has today alongside thousands of his supporters defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) over alleged gross impunity and haughtiness.

Adamawa State chapter of the PDP has recently encountered setbacks following high caliber defections to other political parties leading to substantial erosion of its support base.

Ardo who said he is tired of the undemocratic tendencies of the PDP noted that he deemed it fit to leave the party since it could not change from its bad ways and embrace the narrow path of equity, probity, justice and fairness.

Dr. Ardo who is a founding member of the PDP has kept faith with the party and never left it even for once despite the surfeit disagreements he had with it culminating in eleven court cases with three of them reaching the supreme court.

In a letter of resignation he sent to the chairman of Yelli ward of PDP in Jada local government of Adamawa State, Ardo said he could not continue to romance a party that is excessively disrespectful to even it own constitution.

“My decision is compelled by the perennial acts of impunity, injustice and dishonesty on the part of the party.

“For over a decade, I have been battling with the party in and out of the court of law in an effort of getting things right but the PDP has refused to comply with the rule of law, and constitution it enacted for itself to no avail hence as a true democrat and law abiding citizen, it has become impossible for me to continue in a political party with such vices.

“I have therefore withdrawn my membership of the PDP,” Ardo said.

Ardo who formally joined the SDP in Yelli ward,Sunday, said he intends to use it as a vehicle to rescue the state from the impunity of PDP hence declaring his interest to contest for the governorship of the state.

While urging the people to remain resolute in fighting the PDP behemoth, Ardo said with him as the governor, Adamawa will regain its lost glory and will witness good governance premised on the rule of law, equity, equality, accountability and fairness.

While receiving Ardo into the party, the chairman of SDP Yelli ward, Saidu Hamidu said the defection of Ardo marked a milestone in the life of the party adding that with caliber of persons like him, he is sure the party will wrest power from the PDP in 2023.

He assured Ardo of the support of all party faithfuls noting that they will move to every nook and cranny to canvass for votes for him in order to realize his ambition of governing the state.
