Omoyele Sowore, an activist, politician and publisher of the Sahara reporters news wire was on Monday morning shot in Abuja by a female police officer.

Sowore, who is a former presidential candidate in the 2019 elections was reportedly shot by an unidentified female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

He was said to be attending a rally with some associates when the incident happened.

An activist, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the incident, adding that Sowore had been rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

A lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, also said he watched the shooting live on Facebook.

He tweeted: “@YeleSowore has just been shot by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

“The criminal officer is said to be an ACP. I watched Sowore being shot live on Facebook.”
