A veteran journalist, Honourable Mustapha Shehu, has been declared winner for Sokoto North Local Government Area of the state, at the local government elections conducted in the state.

Honourable Mustapha was declared winner by Chairman, Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman, alongside twenty two other council chairmen’s and one hundred and fifty four councillors that contested on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The newly elected chairman, a former media aide to former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, promised to prioritise issues of healthcare and women empowerment among others

“My first assignment is to ensure that all primary healthcare centers and cottage hospitals are revive to standard. This will reduce the pressure of out-patients in major hospitals within the state capital.

“Another issue is women and youth empowerment. We intend to establish skill acquisition centers across the wards or least four center that spread within the council.

“Other issues to prioritise include provision of potable water, improvement of the council’s Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) and environmental sanitation.”

He emphasised prudence and accountability would be his watchword in managing fund accrued to the Council.
