The committee on Stabilisation Funds of the Revenue Allocation, Mobilization and Fiscal Commission was in Gombe State for an assessment visit to ascertain position of claims from the state with regards to funding facility.

The Committee headed by Federal Commissioner, Representing Ekiti, Mr. Philip Amujo Ajayi paid a courtesy call on the State Deputy Governor in his office, in company of the Commissioner of Finance, Alh. Muhammad Gambo Magaji and the State Accountant General,Dr.Aminu Yuguda.

The Chairman of the committee said, the Committee on stabilization Funds has the mandate of managing the indices and disbursement of fund set aside to aid state governments in Nigeria because of the dwindling revenues adversely affecting the stability of the economy.

According to him, states are expected to make a submission to the commission on areas they intend to spend the money on, and the committee is responsible to verify those claims before the funds will be released to them in order to reactivate their state’s economy

He expressed satisfaction with the Gombe state on areas of investment and assured that they will do their best to see that Gombe state accesses those funds to better the lots of the people.

He said “the team of Gombe State Government came a couple of weeks ago that the state intends to execute some projects through the Stabilisation fund if approved. The Commissioner is now in Gombe to confirm and verify the projects. We have seen the projects and convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Gombe State deserves the funds”.

“We are impressed, seeing what Gombe State is doing, especially in taking care of IDPs. The projects we have seen are encouraging. We shall recommend the state to access the funds towards reactivating the economy and helping it out of the challenges affecting dwindling revenue generation”, he added.

Responding, the state deputy governor Manassah Daniel Jatau,P.h.D, appreciated the work of the commission saying, they are doing a good job but, advised them to pay much attention to exports which determined the foreign exchange earnings of the country and gives value to the nations currencies.

Dr Jatau emphasised that, Gombe state claims are genuine given the fact that the state is over populated due to influx of people from other states in recent years which over- stretches almost all facilities in the state.

He stressed that Gombe state made huge sacrifices in the Federal government deradicalization programme of Operation safe Corridors by donating the only NYSC camp for that purpose which led to transffering of NYSC activities to one of the schools thereby adversely affecting the activities of the school whenever there is NYSC Orientation exercise, and by extension affecting the education sector.

He expressed hope that the federal government will keep intervening in Gombe State to help them provide quality and sustainable socioeconomic development for the benefit of the people.
