The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The result of his samples earlier taken for COVID-19 test came back positive on Saturday.

Some of his aides also tested positive for the virus.

The Governor has since handed over the running of the affairs of the state to his deputy and gone into isolation.

Speaking from isolation, the governor asked residents of the state to take seriously, the protocols and guidelines against COVID-19, set by the NCDC.

Meanwhile Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has recovered from the novel coronavirus, disease, COVID-19.

The governor had announced that he tested positive for the disease on June 8, 2020.

But in a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information, John Kalu, on Saturday, he said the governor’s sample submitted on Thursday returned negative on Friday.

“To the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, 2nd July, 2020, returned negative result on Friday, 3rd July, 2020,” the statement said.

“Governor Ikpeazu is therefore deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organisation.”

Ikpeazu joins the list of governors who have recovered from COVID-19. They include Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
