Adamawa state has recorded 47 new cases of the coronavirus disease, one of the highest confirmed cases in a day since the pandemic broke out about a year ago.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its daily newsletter published on Telegraph reports a total of 1664 new cases Nationwide on Wednesday, January 5th with Lagos and Abuja having the highest numbers of 642 and 407 respectively.

With the new confirmed cases, Adamawa now has a total of 424 confirmed cases with 161 on admission, 25 deaths while 238 patients have been discharged. This is according to the NCDC records.

GOVERNMENT IS WORRIED
The continuous increase in the number of infected persons has got the Adamawa state government worried. Just recently, the Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has to reiterate his governments ready to impose more restrictions if citizens fail to adhere to the nonpharmaceutical protocols as directed by the NCDC and the ministry of health.

The Governor has since ordered the prohibition of any gathering of over fifty persons while urging citizens to ensure they use face masks in public places as well as avoid handshakes and ensure they use sanitizers and wash their hands regularly with soap and water.

Adamawa state epidemiologist Dr. Pembi Emmanuel had during a forum in Yola on Monday suggested that there will be more new cases in the state because of the Christmas break where people traveled into the state from various states without restriction or adhering to any protocol.

ThE RESTRICTION IS POLITICAL
Meanwhile, some members of the All Progressives Congress in the state described the enforcement of the restrictions as political.

Mohammed Ahmed Marafa, an aide to former Governor Umaru Jibrilla Bindow accused the Governor of imposing restrictions to stop the opposition All Progressives Congress from holding it’s mega rally.

The party had scheduled January 9th for a rally where they will receive former Governor, Bala James Ngilari, senator Ishaku Abbo, Abdulaziz Nyako, and others who have decamped to the APC.

” Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a Coward. He should stop using Covid-19 to stop APC from holding their program, imposing a curfew on Adamawa state to deny people their rights of leaving is unfair.

” He should recall that he received many decampees during when the covid is at its high peak which both the numbers of death and on the bed are worst. He has proven to us that the Unity of APC has turned into his nightmare and is distracted him from his audiologist approach.

” Is good for him to know that this will never stop him from vacating from the Dougirei house come 2023 In Shaa Allah,” Marafa said.
