The correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Sokoto state, have resolved to boycott all government activities in the state.

The unanimous decision according to a press statement signed by Habibu Harisu and Emmanuel Ankeli, Chairman and Secretary respectively, was taken after an extra ordinary Congress held on Saturday 13/2/2021.

The statement reads, “following harrasment and molestation of members of the Chapel at the Government House, Sokoto on Friday 12/02/2021 by security personnel, the correspondents chapel have resolved to boycott all government activities in the state.

“The Chapel also barred its members from using press releases issued from the Government, any Group, Individuals, Organisations and Politicians who do not deem it fit to invite them to their functions.

“We condemned in strong terms, the unwarranted attitude of security agents at the Government House for threatening lives of harmless Journalists who are out to do their primary duties.

“The Chapel therefore call on heads of security agencies in the state to sensitize their personnel on media/security relationship.”
