The wife of a frontline Adamawa state APC governorship aspirant, Hajiya Maryam Namdas has promised to initiate programs that will benefit the women of Girei and Adamawa state at large.

She made this known when she paid a thank you visit to the palace of the district head of Girei who doubles as the Ubandoma Adamawa, Dr. Ahmad Mustapha who recently confirmed on her the traditional title of the Jaruma Girei.

Hajiya Maryam who was accompanied by Hajiya Halima Hayatu, the convener of the Women for Namdas campaign group among other prominent women appreciates the district head for trusting her with such an important and respected title. “My visit here today is to thank the district head and his council members for trusting me with such a title. It came as a surprise to me and also as a challenge to do more especially to promote the plight of women and children in society. I have promised the district head that I will avail myself whenever my services are needed,” she said.

The district head while appreciating the Jaruma for the visit said he is confident that she will use this opportunity to inspire women to be peace ambassadors in society.

“I am very happy seeing you here this morning. I’m glad that the Jaruma Girei has come to appreciate us for the title conferred on her. As traditional leaders, we are always looking out for people that will assist us in our activities that can unite our people and promise peace and development. Those are the qualities we look out for before conferring a traditional council on someone. We saw that the Jaruma, Maryam has all these qualities and even more that is why we have given her the title. I believe in the unity of this state that is why I can pick someone from Ganye, like the Jaruma, and give her a traditional title. We know that women are unifiers and we believe that she will use this opportunity to unite our people and promote the ideals of peace among women and the general public,” he said.

Representative of the wife of the Lamido of Adamawa, Fati Abubakar Girei who presented the Jaruma to the district head said the decision to confer Hajiya Maryam Namdas with the title of Jaruma Girei was timely. She appreciates the district head for the confident repost on Hajiya Marya and women in general, while assuring him that they will work as a team to promote the ideals and values of the traditional council.
