The Nigerian Army is investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of a soldier Abdullahi Jibrin, in a battalion in Geidam, Yobe state.

Jibrin, a lance corporal, was arrested following his indictment as a boko haram collaborator at the aftermath of a recent attack in his local unit.

The compromised soldier who disappeared from his duty post few days before the attack was spotted among the terrorists that staged an attack in Geidam which left no fewer than ten people dead with some of his colleagues injured.
Jibrin, reportedly a competent weapons instructor who was formerly in the Intelligence corps fled to Gashua not knowing that his cover had been blown and reported to army authorities.

He was tracked and arrested in a public transport around Gashua enroute Gombe disguised as a civilian.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu, Lieutenant Anyawu Kennedy has confirmed the sequence of events to the media.

“Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin was allegedly fingered during the last attack in Geidam and was later arrested by his commanding officer for failing out of duty. He later struggled and forcefully used an AK-47 rifle to kill himself”. Anyawu stated.

The Military high command has set up a committee to investigate the cause of his death.
