The Government of Niger State has expressed its willingness to patronize the products being manufactured by the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI). Governor Abubakar Sani Bello made this known when he visited the institute in Minna, Wednesday.
The governor said that the state government will patronize companies manufacturing their goods in the state in order to boost their activities, adding that the state government will not leave the goods produced in the state and go for them elsewhere outside the state.
He said that he was surprised that while SEDI was manufacturing laboratories apparatus for schools, schools in Niger State were suffering without functional science laboratories.
According to him, the institution will assist the state in the training and re-training of teachers on how to use the apparatus, adding that they will also assist on how the school laboratories should look like.
“I just left one of our schools and I was shocked, I was really shocked and touched at the same time because they were teaching practical with no equipment in their laboratories”, he said.
Governor Bello added that those around him have rated the institute high, that’s why he decided to come and see for himself what they do and he was impressed that Niger State is playing host to the institute.
He said the state government and the institute can collaborate to advance the capacity of the institution as development is important to the advancement of the society.
Earlier on, Managing Director of SEDI, Engr. Dr. Mohammed Baba Ndaliman, said that the institute facilitate research and produce apparatus needed in science and allied subjects in schools.
Dr. Ndaliman said that the institute has not received any chief executive of the state since the past 30 years and that they were happy to receive the governor even with the short notice.
He added that the institute has been seeking for collaboration with Niger State Government especially now that it is states from outside that are benefitting.
